Years ago, I sent a Remington 700 VSSF to Arnold Arms to be accurized. They squared the bolt, cryoed the barrel, recut the crown, bedded the action, reworked the trigger, and probably several other things, all for a pretty good package price. The gun has been a great shooter since. Unfortunately, Arnold Arms is no longer in business.

I'm looking to have another 700 done, this time an XCR Compact Tactical. Whom should I consider to do the work? Names and websites would be welcome. Thanks!

Are you comfortable with having the work done outside your State?
No objection at all; just want someone with a proven record.

+1 on the Hill Country Rifles, they do great work. Awesome guys too!

Billy Dale is in north central virginia http://www.bdrcustomguns.ws/

He specializes in 600 and 1000 yrd benchrest guns, but will build whatever you want with the same tight tolerances that produce very accurate rifles.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the pricing on the website. Call him and tell him what you want done and he will probably make you a deal.

The R700 action can be worked on by most gunsmiths...when people attend a gun smith school...the action used at the school is the R700...I think that is why the R700 is so popular. I'd question any gunsmith that couldn't work on a R700 action.

My Rem 700 will shoot about 1 1/4 inch groups at 100 meters with military surplus, 3006 Greek, ammo. All I did to it was add a Weaver 2-7 steel scope to it. I probably could do better with handloads but why bother.....chris3

I have a couple of rifles done by Don Geraci. You can google him. He's based in Independence, LA. From what I understand, he's pretty well known in benchrest circles.

Check in with my gunsmith Curtis. He's a big Remington fan and is a well trained and proven gunsmith with a bachelors degree in gunsmithing. I believe he can do bedding, trigger and action work. Maybe more... call and check in with him. I'm not big on posting phone numbers on the internet, but you can get our contact information @ www.sodaksport.com. Call & ask for Curtis.
