im doing some buying locally to avoid hassles and here's what my choices comes down to

1. LNIB USP 45, $600
2.Stainless steel Taurus PT1911, $500
3. Armscor 1911, practical (with novak sight, combat ring, front seration, polish ramp, wilson shok prof kit, ergo grip) yada yada

I only have $600 or so to spent (not really). Which of these is the best buy?

thanks

Of your choices, I would pick the LNIB USP. It is the most likely to run without problems.

That said, for less than $600 you can get a Glock 21, have you considered it?

Taurus...

Taurus! And I just dont see why they get sold short?

Honestly...The best value in a 1911 today.

and here we go................:uhoh:

A friend of mine traded 2 rifles for a used USP 40, it had FTE and lock-back issues. He traded that for a Taurus PT1911 in stainless (plus cash), and that thing ran perfect, no failures of any kind and was dead-on accurate too.

I'm actually looking for the same thing you are, with about the same budget. I'm going to try to get a Springfield GI if I can find one, and if not, im probably going for the Armscor (RIA) base model in .45, maybe nickle.

sry guys i guess wasnt specific enough. The choices i've picked comes down to local sellers, basically cash and carry type so i dont have to mess with the tax+ffl fee+shipping fee from buying online.

Honestly they're all very tempting but im alil concerned about the reliability of the armscor and Taurus 1911.

I'd go with the USP.

You might also do some research on the XD45 and XD45 Compact?
Hard to believe you can't find someone locally selling 'em.

The XD45 Compact has been on my wish list for way too long-the 1/2" shorter grip (the only difference) fits my hand better.

I listen to way too many Podcasts (mostly to amuse myself) and a number of the Glock folks (who don't realize they are) have stated if they were going 45, they'd get the XD.

Fer a number of Glockophiles to admit that...well, mebbe there's something there worth checking out?

It depends on if you want a 1911 or not. I was in the same situation with the same guns minus the Armscor and I went with the Taurus, of which will be my 2nd one and you can't go wrong with it. People can say what they want about the company but lots of people get the PT1911, this go around I went stainless steel, but I prefer the 1911 over the HK but if I could only have one gun it would be the HK USP45compact.

I would get the USP without hesitation. You can't wear it out and it is far more likely to be the most reliable and accurate of the three.
(as long as the ergonomics work for you)

I'd stick that $600 into the bank and add a little to it each week until I had enough to buy a really nice gun such as a Wilson Combat. You never regret buying quality.

Obviously not a given option but for less than the 600 mentioned you can get a brand-new Taurus pt145, which I daily carry and love the piss out of it, haven't had a single qualm out of it, i do own a few tauruses so out of the mentioned options I'd go with that one simply because i know it'd be reliable, not that I'm saying the others wouldn't be, I just know that one would be

I happen to have both a PT1911 and an RIA CS Officers and both have been great guns.
If your gonna be carrying this gun id say the 1911 is the best route.
But i admit i know little about the USP .45 but im rather sure its a good quality gun.
But a 1911 is like a Barbie Doll for grown up men like the AR15/M4 rifles are as you can dress them anyway you like.
But i will add i feel the 1911 does require more maintenance than most guns, Mainly keeping an eye on the extractor tension and wear and the use of higher end magazines make like easier. But past that its a pretty carefree gun until springs need replaced between 2k-3k rounds but all guns have that.

IMO nothing shoots like a 1911.

I love my Glock 21, it is the only automatic I own now, but of the choices you offered I'd go USP, not a tough choice for me.

Taurus

My PT-1911 has proven itself good enough for EDC. First time out, 200 rounds without failure ... 100 Blazer Brass 230 ball + 100 LRN reloads. Since then I've shot an additional 700 rounds, a mixture of various brands, weights and bullet types.

I've experienced zero FTFs, FTEs, stovepipes or failures of any kind. It's a reliable, accurate easy to shoot pistol with an excellent factory trigger.

45acp 1911

I just purchased a used springfield armory 5" barrel model 1911A1 45.cal. I got it for 485.00 Ive read good reviews on this one, for the money its sweet!!

Off of your list I would go with the Taurus. They seem like great guns for the money.

My favorite .45 is the S&W M&P45 though.

One thing to consider....

Polymer Frames may weigh less, but that in turn translates into harder recoil and muzzle climb.

My Pa bought an XD45 and after a trip to the range resold it. It felt wonderful in the hand, had nice mag capasity, and seemed like a sure bet for competition shooting.

But shooting was another issue. If you were taking your time it was spot on. But, if you up'd the speed of your shots its down side showed its ugly head. It was down right hard to keep on target. The muzzle climb meant you were constantly fighting the gun to get it back on target.

Both Dad and I have 1911 steel frame 45's. The 1911 is very controlable when shooting fast. It's weight is a blessing.

Which one fits your hand better? If its the HK get it. I found the USP to be like holding a 2"X4" but other people love them.

If the 1911 fits your hand better than I would get the Armscor pistol over the Taurus. I believe they are more consistant than the Taurus. Not that you cannot or will not get a decent Taurus but IMHO their QC is more hit or miss.

Are these 1911s new or used guns?
