Recommend me a safe... OK sized budget

I would like to purchase a nicer safe. I have one now, but it's time for a replacement of better quality.


One that can hold at least 24 long guns (by their measurement)... I'm really looking for a good company more than a single model really. Safes are not something I know a lot about.


I am willing to spend up to $10,000 for one. I see behemoth sized safes at stores like Cabela's all the time from 5-6k... so I figured 10 would be a good number.




Any names mentioned would be appreciated.

With your budget, you want a pro and not somebody with a good idea.

One thing to be aware of is the fire rating. I have had a couple of friends who are retired fireman tell me that a 1200 degree firewall is not going to protect your guns in a house fire. I am sure that a1abdj will cover that with you.

With a $10,000 budget you should be able to afford everything short of a safe room.

Yeah, if I had 10K in the budget for something like this, I'd forget about a safe altogether. I'd spend a little on an old, salvaged bank vault door, from ebay or somewhere. There are a few for sale right now, date from the early 1900s, and cost anywhere from $650 to $3,000. Maybe this old Victor. Then I'd spend the rest on concreting a corner of my basement up for this thing to hang on.

I don't know if 10K would do it though. I'd have to do a lot of the work myself.

Also I just purchased from acsafes.com Adam 817 228 1184. The one I purchased was 25% less for the same safe than other web sights I visited. Either a1abdj as per my first post or these guys. Cost was + $100 delivered they are in the DFW area.

Cabela's has a safe for about $3500 that is freaking huge. Thing hold about 90 guns. How many guns are you needing to house?

With your budget, you are well within the range of a real UL listed burglary rated safe. None of the manufacturers mentioned yet build them, and most of what applies to gun safes does not apply to the types of safes you would be interested in.

AMSEC is the only manufacturer that builds a gun safe at the factory with a UL burglary rating, but you can convert a safe from any other manufacturer. We do these conversions, as well as conversions of restored antique safes.

I hear great things about Fort Knox Safes. They are fully customizable. I think they are a little more spendy than some other safe companies, but your modest budget should be able to accommodate a quite nice one.

+1 on Amsec they offer some of the best safes on the market, and they are a REAL safe company compare to some of the competition. They have some really nice TL-15 and TL-30 rated safes in your budget that would be an excellent choice. Although due to there high security rating they are extremely heavy (up to 3 tons).

Brown builds heavier safes (as do several others), but they are only offering B, C, E, and F "rated" safes. These are actually not ratings, but rather an older system that has to do with the methods of construction.

With a budget that large, there's no reason that the safe shouldn't carry a true burglary rating.

I also don't trust Brown, as I've already caught them fibbing (or if not intentional, then being not very knowledgeable.) I have also seen a very expensive custom safe that they sent to St. Louis that was really lacking for the price. When dealing with this type of security and this type of money, neither of these should have been an issue.

I'll echo what others have said by saying look at the AMSEC HS series gun safes. In your price range, you should be looking at an actual T.L. rated safe.
