I've got a S&W M&P 45 in full size that I love and now want to look for another 45. Either a 1911 or a striker fired action. Here are my requirements:

Must be a 45 ACP
Must have a tactical rail
Must be a lightweight (alloy or polymer frame)
Prefer Commander or full size frames but will consider a compact.

The only ones I prefer not to consider are Glocks. What are my options, guys? :)

Springfield XDm45
Sig P220R45
Springfield Champion Operator
Springfield Lightweight Operator
Wilson Professional Lightweight w/ Railed frame option

I don't really know your price range, but any of the custom shops will make just about anything you ask.

I definitely want to stay under $1000. Any other suggestions? I'm hearing lots of good things about the Springy XD-M. :D

You've got my #1 choice in the M&P 45 but I also hear good things about the HK 45.

Condition: New in Box

Overview:

The Caliber .45 ACP HK45 includes several user inspired enhancements including a Picatinny Mil-Std 1913 accessory rail, better ergonomics and more ambidextrous controls. This full size V1 uses an HK proprietary O-ring barrel for precise barrel to slide lockup and optimal accuracy. HK45 barrels are made using the famous HK cold hammer forging process for superior performance. An improved USP style control lever, a combination safety and decocking lever is frame mounted on the HK45 and is quickly accessible. The HK45 control lever has a positive stop and returns to the "fire" position after decocking. Integral Mil-Std 1913 (Picatinny) rail molded into the polymer frame dust cover for mounting lights, laser aimers and other accessories. Ergonomic grip profiles with user replaceable grip panels to adjust the feel and grip circumference of the weapon to suit individual operator hand size and shooting preference. Polygonal rifling for longer barrel life and better accuracy. Low profile drift adjustable 3 dot sights.

Specifications:

  • Action = Single / Double
  • Caliber = 45 Automatic Colt Pistol (ACP)
  • Barrel Length = 4.53"
  • Capacity = 10 + 1
  • Safety = Manual
  • Grips = Black Polymer
  • Sights = 3-Dot
  • Weight = 1.79 lbs

Yes, my M&P 45 does have a rail. I'm looking for an additional gun not one to replace the M&P. You can't have too many guns, you know. :D

+1 for the HK45, but if you have to have either a striker fired or 1911, i'd look into either the Springfield Lightweight Operator or MC Operator. Great fit and finish from the ones ive seen. Really nice trigger on them as well.

Well, if you keep an eye out for a Springfield Operator, you might get lucky enough to find one under $1k. The MC Operator and Champion Operator don't have lightweight frames, but are very nice. I have an XDm40 and once I warmed up to the trigger and sights, I was shooting some pretty good groups. It's very accurate and meets all of your requirements. I will say though, that when fully loaded (16+1), my XDm40 weighs nearly as much as a fully loaded steel framed 1911. I also carry it every day, so it must not be too bad. ;)

10 yards, off hand:
