I'm doing some research on flip-up sights for the AR. Upon thumbing through the latest CTD catalog, I see tons of options. I'm not looking to have to sell the dog and the wife to get a good set, but I don't want a cheap set that I end up pitching into the woods either. Anyone have any thoughts?

They're not cheap, but you can't go wrong with Troy.

Magpul is probably the best "budget" pick.

i got a sampson front folding sight FFS-EXT for $95.00 and arms#40L (low profile) $119.00 from rockriver when i i ordered my rifle with the correct gas block to be able to use with a scope and their cantilever scope mount .

I wouldn't have any problems picking a Troy, Samson, GG&G or KAC. Midwest and Magpul should be fine as well.

As long as you stay away from brands like UTG, any of the reputable manufacturers will be fine. Pick a few you like from the catalog and post them here. We will be happy to help you narrow down your choices.

I would probably go with something in the Tritium line (small radioactive vials of gas light themselves in the dark for about 12 years).

Well, I was on Magpul's site, and they don't recommend their MBUS Gen.2 (front sight) for a railed gas block... which is what I have. So I'm looking into YHM (Yankee Hill) and EMA. I guess another option is swapping out my plain jane fore-end for a railed one.

I like the Troy Battle Sight. It is very solid, square when mounted, and the windage can't be changed accidentally while flipping up or down, which is solid, but easy to do.

I've had very good good luck with both Troy and GG&G. If you're on a budget, I think the best bang for the buck is the Magpul MBUS. I received a Matech over the weekend, look forward to trying it out.

Thanks alot fellas. I appreciate your experience and general input. I've decided to go ahead and get the replacement quad rail (from Yankee Hill) and the Magpuls. Thanks for the links Kyle; pretty impressive! I'll let y'all know how things turn out at the range... if my wife will stop adding to my to-do list.

ordered Troy flip-ups from Grabagun for $100(rear only). came in less than a week. Best price I've found on a great BUIS.

I went with the Troys only because I got the pair for 185 shipped to me. I was deciding between samson and troy and the price is what did it for me. I too have mine mounted on the gas block.

Watch out for the Chinese counterfit Magpul sights. The ones I've seen have all been at gun shows and look exactly like first generation sights but the quality is far from the same. You will end up pitching them into the woods.
