I'm looking for some one-on-one or small class instruction. I'd like to improve my pistol shooting (range, plinking) at around 7 to 15 yards. I want to shoot better and more consistently. Besides NRA Basic Pistol, I've never had any real instruction.

It seems most of the local courses feature some basic instruction, with an eye toward concealed carry guidance/legalities. I just want some good marksmanship instruction, and drawing from an OWB holster is about as "tactical" as I need to get (at the moment). I can't seem to find NRA or local training courses that fit the bill.

Any suggestions--instructors or classes--within about an hour of DC or Northern VA?

Thanks all!

Are AL or TN too far away?...maybe NC?

I can highly recommend these folks. They teach exactly what you are looking for, the ability to place your shots where you want them at high speed...in other words, the basic skills you'd need for any kind of shooting you'd like to progress to

There are some world class instructors up that way. See http://www.thehighroad.org/showpost.php?p=4964258&postcount=6 for the ones I've been able to find and list. And thanks to you, I just reviewed all the VA links.

Also, some of the itinerant instructors get out that way from time to time, and I've seen announcements for their classes at the gun club at Quantico and other ranges. Ask around at local FFL dealers if anyone knows of any classes coming up in the region.

9mm--Thanks, that's exactly the type of training I'm looking for, despite the location.

Lee--Thanks for the link. I had missed a few of those in my googling and will look into them.

Much appreciated!

I've never been very good at distances on the East coast.

We had to drive through 3 states when we taught in KY...and we had students from as far away as Michigan, Maine and TN. They usually hold a annual class in NH, if that is any closer to you
