Just a quick introduction, I meant to join 8 months ago but never got the chance. I reload 10mm, 45 ACP, 9mm and 5.56 all on a RL550B. I usually post on HKPRO and SigForum - Reloading forum
I just wanted to ask if anyone has had the chance to use Mastercast bullets out of Enon Valley, PA?
I started reloading cast with Missouri Bullet Company and bought 1000 45 ACP 230 ball and 500 9mm in 147 and 125
I have to say that for whatever reason I had a good bit of leading with MBC out of my Colt 1911 Gov't Model. As far as 9mm I was shooting a Sig 226 and MP5/ MP5K-PDW and had only minor leading.
The 45 was so bad that I had actually started to use Lewis Lead Remover which takes patients and a bit or elbow grease. I find that annoying.
After reading posts on this site I discovered Big Frontier bore cleaner strands/pads which is like chorboy and removes leading in 1-3 passes, AWESOME stuff.
But I got sick of the leading and found a local company (about 50 miles from where I live) that sells hard case bullets. I was shocked at the quality compared to the MBC as the Mastercast bullets are noticeably better as far as not having tacky lube and the alloy looks to be better than MBC but I know that is subjective as I have no scientific way of testing it.
The proof in the pudding for me was at least 90% less leading out of my 45 with the Mastercast bullets. I really love these bullets. So far I have loaded up 10mm, 45 ACP and 9mm with no issues and they were all great quality, properly sized and with lube in place and not tacky.
I just want to put a positive review out for them because they make some great stuff. Here are some picture comparisons between MBC and Mastercast, not much to look at other that the lube and maybe that it looks like Mastercast tumbles their final product to polish. (im guessing on this)
*** First picture is MBC 45 230 gr
*** Second picture is Mastercast 185 SWC
Hopefully that helps some people looking for different options for cast bullets.
I know the next time I am getting paid I will be buying a coupe thousand from Mastercast so I have some rounds for winter!
