Hi all, I have some .243 cases that a person with not much experience and too much enthusiasm tried to trim down.
Would it be worth the while to drive to my local metal recycler and sell the ruined cases?
I've seen a couple of people and local ranges scavenging for brass before and they said there intention was to scrap it not reload it. So, is this brass worth the trip? It's probably around 200 cases.
Thanks!

Not for 200.

Save it until you get enough in a bucket to at least pay for the gas to get it there.

Today's market on copper is around $3.50 per pound. Cartridge brass is 70% copper, which equates to $2.45 per pound. A good scrap dealer should pay about 80% of that price, or $2.00 per pound. Larger quantities will bring a higher percentage of market. Definitely save all that old brass (and primers) until you have enough to make it worthwhile.

Brass is currently at $1.80 per pound around me. Call your yards and see what they're offering. You will definitely get more money selling them to be reloaded. Those that scrounge ranges do it to make money. They probably don't want to deal with the hassle of selling it. I pick up all the 22s I can at the range because they add up fast as far as weight is concerned.

My local scrap dealer is paying about $1.96 a pound for scrap brass.
As rcmodel said: "Save it until you get enough in a bucket to at least pay for the gas to get it there."

I took about 80 pounds last Friday and received $2.15 a pound for it. It's definately worth the trouble to save old brass that you aren't going to reload, or has reached the end of it's service life.

I also took a five gallon bucket full of bullet jackets left over from smelting bullets from the pistol berm for lead. They paid me #2 copper price for the jackets, which was $3.03 a pound. The bucket full was worth $221.00, and I got $4.00 for an old BBQ that I had intended to put out for the trash....

Hope this helps.
