I'm looking for a Red Dot for my Saiga/AK conversion. Something under $100.00. I was considering the Truglo but have read a number of negative things here about it. I'm left eye dominant so the usual Russian ones won't work for me due to the offset.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

I'm right handed but left eye dominant so I shoot lefty. Most of the Russian scopes are offset.

Mount cost something like $30, and I think I paid $45 for the red dot, gently used. Works pertty well. Does the Saiga have the side mount rail attachment?

Yes it has the rail attachment. Is that a WASR? What scope is that??

Sorry for all the questions but I was a bit confused. I am left eye dominant but I have no trouble useing my right eye also. I can't imagine I would ever be comfortable shooting left handed to compensate for the eye dominace issue. You got some skills there Saiga:)

Anyway, if you didn't allready purchase a mount be very careful. Some of them are still slightly off set to the left.

As far as reddots and optics in general, you get what you pay for! He did say "gently used".

If I were you I would get a PK-AS-V unit. Its $209 and more of a chin weld but its red/black dot with a circle and can be used when the batteries run out. Its the latest and best model I know of thats out there and its centerline over the bore.

Otherwise I have a Bushnell Trophy on my Ruger 22/45 seems to work fine for a .22lr pistol at the very least and was about a $100. I wouldn't put a cheap reddot on an AK.

I have a Tasco ProPoint on my Saiga, using the Tantal BP-2 mount, and it works well for a range gun. I got the sight on eBay for the princely sum of $30 on a lark, but so far it's worked fine, with no issues. If I was going to use the rifle seriously, I'd probably move to an Aimpoint, if only for the ruggedness and vastly superior battery life of the Aimpoint....
