Total nube to pistol red dot mounting here. I bought a couple of different red dots and have a pistol ordered. Is there a resource that yall know of that breaks all the different cuts and adapter plates down? What about plates that replace rear sights without molding the slides? I have many pistols that are not cut but might use those. I can list the specific models of guns and optics but would rather have a website or list that really broke it down for me to see all of the options.

If you do an internet search for "red dot footprints" in a, you'll get a lot of info pop up. I found a bunch doing that, just didn't save any of them after I read over things.

You do need to make sure the dots footprint will work with the gun you have or how its set up.

Trijicon RMR's footprint seems to be a pretty common one, and some of the other makers, like Holosun, have sights that use the same footprint. I went with that, as I was originally intending on getting one of the RMR's, but after getting one of three Holosun 407's to try out, Ill probably stick with that for now.

Holosuns SCS-MOS version takes things up a level and goes on the Glock MOS without a plate and you can use the factory irons with it too. Looks like they are making them for other guns now too. Im thinking they may be the way to go going forward. I put one on one of my 26's and like it.

I tried one of the plates that replaces the rear sight and uses its dovetail when I was trying to figure out if I wanted a dot on my 26. The plate I used was from EGW, and it worked, but I didn't like how or where it put the dot on the gun. It validated the idea for me, but I knew there were better options and I went that route.

If you arent sure if a red dot is what you want, it might be an option to try it and see, but after going that route, I don't think its the best way to go.

None that I am aware of. Some RD's share the same footprint some are unique. Some guns have multi-plate systems some dont. So you will have to be more specific about what your wanting to do.

Ive had DPPs and RMRs mounted on 2011's and Glocks. Both had various plates that made it quite simple. If I were to mill I would only go with one of the popular/known quality RDs; DPP, RMR, 507s

You’re going to have to do your homework on your specific red dot that you choose and the pistol you choose. For instance the RMR/SRO screw mounting holes are too wide for 1911/2011 and Hi-Power . So you have to use a plate . The RMR has to have a sealing plate but not the SRO . Not a problem for Glock or CZ P series . The slides are wide enough. There are a lot of red dots to choose from . The HoloSun SCS/MOS for Glock doesn’t use a plate and you don’t need suppressor height sights . The problem with mounting plates ( not sealing plates ) is the screws that mount the sight don’t go into the slide . So not very many threads . Some mounting plates are steel some are aluminum . Lots of options and that’s a good thing . _storage_emulated_0_DCIM_Album 2_20171223_134119.jpeg IMG_2582.jpeg IMG_2525.jpeg IMG_3269.jpeg

Clearly you know how the internet works because you’re on the forum. Do what the rest of us do. A two minute search will answer almost every question you have about red dots. Have fun with the difference between RMSc and Holosun’s modified RMS footprint. They are not the same.
