I have an ATN Digital Red Dot laying around (was mounted on my AR, but I just replaced it with an ACOG) I was thinking of picking up a B-Square mount for my Model 29 and putting the Red Dot on it.

But I just wonder if the recoil of .44mag is going to be too much for it.

Anyone have any experience with putting a red dot on a .44mag?

I have a Leupold Gilmore red dot on my S&W Model 29. The mounts are Weaver on a Weaver rail. After 2000 rounds, it still holds zero. I used blue LocTite on all the screws and have had no problems. I had to machine another slot in the rail to get the scope and rings to line up but other than that, it was no problem.
I have a S&W 686 with a Millet red dot and B Square mounts. It has never come loose or moved zero. Good luck.

I've not had any problems using Aimpoint and PDP and I've even stuck a BSA on one for a neighbor, but it hasn't been shot enough to really make a proper statement about longevity with moderate use. Just something the guy had and wanted to try on his pistol.

I put a Millet red dot on my 629 6". It lasted 5 shots 180 Gr. Federal.
Then put on a BSA cheapo. Accurate, 500+ rounds same load no problems, holds zero.

I have aimpoint 2000 on my blackhawk with 10 1/2" barrel.Only prob is holding steady as gun is so heave.Other then that held up for 12 yrs before had a prod, and think it has to do with battery connectios worn out.

I don't have any personal experience with the ATN's but have heard of them shaking loose inside from recoil of big bore handguns. I have an UltraDot on a .480 Ruger and it has held up fine, also a J-Point (Optima) on a Bisley 45LC (hot) with no issues. Also I have a friend who had a scope in one of the B-Square clamp-on bases that flew over his shoulder form his SBH 44 Mag. I'd go with a Weigand http://www.jackweigand.com/swhpmnt.html although you will need to D&T, it won't go anywhere.
