As I get closer to fifty than forty, the eyes aren't as great as they used to be. I carry a blue Taurus M85UL. Is there any advantage to putting a red dot on the front sight? 2"BBL. Or should you just point and shoot a snub-nosed revolver?

Probably no right or wrong answer; just interested in some opionions.

I presume you mean a fiber optic front site as opposed to a aimpoint/millet/et al. type sight that most people call a "red dot"?

No.

Fiber optic sights don't glow in low light, and red paint is almost as hard to see as black in the dark.

Paint a white dot on it if you must, but red won't do much good.

Docter sight. It would be about the best overall, size and perforamce. Some of the new S&W NightGuard guns are milled for a fixed sight, so a base for the Docter could be milled to fit the slot, or some picatinny "blank" milled to fit the rear sight slot and extend over the topstrap.

Yeah, to clarify, I do mean just putting some paint/nail polish on the front sight. I guess I didn't think about white. Even if--stupid idea?

Testers Model Paint in the little glass jars from Walmart does a great job on sights.

Not so expensive you can't try more then one color.

It will come off with nail polish remover if you change your mind.

Not a stupid idea at all, krmgator. It works, and the best part is that if you don't like it after you try it, it comes off with a little thinner/slovent and a brush. When I first started carrying back in the early eighties, if they did not have a Smith with the red ramps or another gun with a front sight insert, almost everybody I knew had paint on their front sight. Try some different colors, the brighter the better. I would advise to just carefully paint the width of the sight and not try for a dot. Seems I remember that working better for me.
