I have a Bushmaster in .223 caliber. I had it scoped for a while, but decided it was not all that great for distance shooting so removed the scope. I am considering putting a Red Dot sight on it and would appreciate any comments from folks who have had experience with the Red Dot or holographic sights. Thanks.

Not good for distance shooting?:what:
I regularly shoot 3"-4" at 200 yards with 55 gr without a scope! Some of the guys I've seen at the range that use scopes on ARs are very tight.
I have tried a few red dots and could not get them to hold zero. I have not tried any of the more expensive ones like eotech, the the less expensive bushnell and BSA did not work for me.

Thanks for the input. By Distance Shooting I was meaning 300 plus yards. I was having a bit of a problem with wind at greater distances. Decided that for long range I'd stick to a heavier round, my .300 Weatherby for instance. I put an AimPoint on the Bushmaster. We'll see how it works out. Once again, thanks for the input

I use a Burris XTS-135 on my Bushy and I'm very happy with the accuracy it gives at 100yds. Unfortunately, I don't currently have a longer range available to try it at longer distances.

My soldier son (deployed) has updated his Rock River to match his issue M4. Added an M4A3 upper, YHM flip BUIS, Aimpoint ML2 on an ARMS mount. He loves the Aimpoint.
