It depends on how much you're going to be shooting it.
For the occasional use that most get, even an under $100 model could suffice.
If it's going to get serious use, like regular matches and lengthy practice sessions, the lower priced ones won't do.
Are you planning on doing 3 gun or carbine events or attending training sessions with it?

Yes I plan on using it for 3 gun. Sorry Tim, that mount with the Bushnell is going to be too high. I want something lower than that.

The mount with the Bushnell puts it at the same height as the iron sights. ARs need higher iron sights and higher optic mounts because they do not drop at the comb. If you go lower you won't be able to get your face low enough on the stock to efficiently use the sight.

consider ultra dot. lifetime warranty. Lots of bullseye guys use them and they have a special AR version out now with a target-style elevation turret.

That TRS is definitely not too high for an AR.

In fact, it is better to have a tablet red dot than a let one for cheek weld purposes on an AR.

The main red dots that you will see in 3 gun are Aimpoints and Eotechs for a reason... The optic is going to take a beating go in and out of dump barrels, and most others don't hold up to that type of abuse well.

I ordered a Vortex Strikefire from PSA on black friday for $90. Hasnt arrived yet but for the price, I couldnt pass it up for my dissipator build.
