I have a set of .454 casull dies given to me. I have a set of lee dies I use now.

My question is: on the sizing die it has some lettering, I got these second hand and was hoping someone could let me know if I have them in order.
As they are in the case:
Sizing die: TIC J1
Seating die: PRO ST
Crimp Die: PRO CR
Are these set up right?

I set it up and ran a once fired starline .454 case in the sizing die and it was scraping and gouging the case. Upon further looking i could see a build up of what looks like metal around the mouth of the sizing die. Also with a magnifying glass i could see what I think is a hairline crack. Could loading dirty cases have caused this? The dies look new, but I can see from the look of the sizing die at least that on is not.

Any help with a die set like this?

Thanks RC

With some carbide dies you can't allow them to make contact with the shell holder because the sizer ring extends beyond the die body, which can be seen in that picture you posted. That die is in fact fractured and needs to have the sizer ring replaced.

Even if they charge you for it, it is probably worth it. Redding dies are primo.

I prefer my Lee dies because I can use the Auto-Disk powder measure, but Redding dies are premium.

Lost Sheep.

Redding will replace the die free if you return it to them. I've many redding die sets and any problems I've had they were quick to respond.

Received the die in the mail today. They just replaced it with a new one.

Now I can get it all set up to load. Thanks for the info to send it back.
