I have been roll crimping with my seating die in two steps sometimes, and in one step others.

I finally bought a Redding Profile die in .44 Mag/SPC. This die has the most consistent roll crimp I have seen on a cartridge. It is very uniform, and just looks superb.

Have others had experience with this die? It is in the 4th station of my 550b.

Walkalong, I was blown away by the difference between the Redding Profile, and the way the RCBS seating die crimped.

Do you have a pet load for .44 Mag and True Blue with 240 Lead?

I have some RCBS seater dies with roll crimp, and they crimp very well too, either while seating or in a second step. I have been very happy with them.

I have not tried True Blue in .44 Mag.

True Blue seems to do well in .45 Colt with lead, so I see no reason it would not work in .44 Mag.

7 yards over the chrono.

Listing in the book is 11.5 to 12.8 with velocity at 1,152 and 1,259.

Barrel: 8.275" ■ Twist: 1-20" ■ Primer: FED 155 ■ Bullet Dia.: .429"

I will be using a 5.5" barrel same twist and same primer for testing. I know that the loss of velocity for 1" of a rifle is around 70 fps on average. What is it for revolvers, the same?

I have no idea. I have 4" revolvers that can keep up with some 6" revolvers. Barrel gap etc...

I have the crimp die, I also use their micrometer seating die. You would it as well as you do the profile die.

I have one I recently got included with 4 other dies all for 45 Colt. I've used it on 45 Colt and 454 casull and really like it. I use the RCBS Cowboy dies on the 45 Colt and Lee dies on the 454 with the profile die for the crimp.

I just got the Redding Pro series for 44 Mag. Nice looking dies. I've noticed two things so for. I load on a 650 Dillon, when I adjust the crimp die no matter how light the crimp, the round gets hung up in the die and causes the shell plate to snap on the down stroke as the round comes out of die.

The second thing, maybe I have too much bell on the case but the seat die is removing the bell and the case scratches against the die's wall.

The Profile Crimp Die says to spray some case lube into the mouth of the die. I sprayed a squirt of DCL and let dry. It worked pretty good.

I bought profile crimp dies for every revolver round I can get them in. Great dies and they work great. My process is seat totally separate from crimp in all handgun rounds. In autoloaders I just went and bought another separate taper crimp die so I can keep things independent. I have more control over what I am making this way.
