Redfield Revolution vs. Bushnell Elite 3200

So Academy has a hunting sale going on this week, and I've got about $300 burning a hole in my pocket. I've decided it is time to get a centerfire hunting rifle.

The Savage Stevens 200 is on sale for $180, so I'm going to get that--leaning towards .270 right now, but I want to see what else they have (only list .270 and 7mm-08 in the ad, but if they have it in .30-06 I'll probably get that instead).

My dilemma right now is on a scope. There are a couple of scopes in the ad that I'm trying to decide between--the Redfield Revolution or Bushnell Elite 3200. Both are 3-9x40, for $150.

Any opinions on these two scopes, or anything else in the flier (here) that you'd recommend? Other recommendations for scopes $150 or under would also be entertained.

At $150 the Elite 3200 will be unbeatable.

The Redfield Revolution, although assembled in the US, is made with foreign components, I assume Chinese glass. The Elite 3200 is made in Japan with Japanese glass. It also would give you Rainguard, which is worthwhile.

If $200 is an option, a Nikon Team Primos is better, as it's the prior generation Nikon Monarch with a different name. Available from SWFA and some other sources at that price.
 
I have a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40 on my Colt Hbar and I love it. The only thing I can compare it too is a Leupold 4-12x40 VX-I on a M77 Ruger and I would say they are almost identical. The only differance being lens coating (which I can't tell other than by the box) and the Leupold has a polished finish. For the price you can't beat the Redfield.
 
I don't know anything about the new Redfields but the Bushnell Elites are excellent. I think they made a mistake when they dropped the "Bausch & Lomb" name in favor of "Elite" because most folks associate "Bushnell" with relatively cheap stuff.
 
Craig - my understanding is that B&L sold the line and naming rights to Bushnell around 1997, but Bushnell's right to use "Bausch & Lomb" ended after a couple years, resulting in the simple "Elite" name. I agree that I generally view Bushnell as a cheapo brand, but at least the Elite series are from very good to absolutely top notch.
 
Between the two I would take the Bushnell E-3200 hands down, but considering other options I would either choose a Vortex Diamondback for a little more loot (about $180.00 for 3-9x40mm or 4-12x40mm) or a Sightron S-I for a little less (3-9x40mm for little more than $100.00). Not to discount the E-3200 (which is a good scope, but not nearly as clear and bright as the 4200), but I can't see that much difference in it and the S-I, I can when compared to the Diamondback.

I have both and like both but between the two, the bushnell E/3200 is superior...with the elite 3200 and 4200s I rarely get anything else... I went with the redfield on a custom Mauser because the picture was clear, reviews were good, and it just looks good on that gun... (scientific I know!)

I do have one Leupold... a VXIII, it is considerably more expensive but an incredible scope.

For around your price range, the VXII options are worth giving a look.
 
I've only seen, but never actually put to use any of the Redfield scopes, but do have a good bit of trigger time behind the Bushnells. Both the 3-9X32 and the fixed 10X in the Elite 3200 line are real steals for the money.

I'm running Nightforce now, but I saw that sale at Academy too. I may just go and pick up a Bushnell just to have it around in case I need a good scope in a pinch.
 
Out of those two the Bushnell 3200 hands down. However, I'm going to have to go with other in your poll. I'd look into the Vortex Diamondback or Burris Fullfield II.
Bestbuy.com also has a Pentax Pioneer 4.5-14x42mm for $144 that's supposed to be the same as the Fullfield II.

I have to side with the "3200 Elite" voters, as well. I have a 3200 and a 4200.
Also, Bushnell's customer service/warranty is very good. I had to use it once on a low-end Banner, and upgraded directly from them to my 3200. I hear less than stellar reports about Nikon's, which was a major factor in my recent choosing of the 4200 Elite over a Nikon. Leupold's is also very good
(actually, astoundingly good),as I understand ( I also have a Leupold MK IV PR mil-dot 4.5-14 ) but I fortunately haven't had to test it. It would be worth finding out if Leupold's excellent warranty applies to the Redfields that they manufacture.
 
Hirundo82, this is kind of track, I got the same flyer from Academy. as for the scope I would go with the Bushnell Elite, Redfield is good too. as for the Stevens 200, what a helluva price, buy one, you can use it as a build up rifle..I got one in 7mm-08, with a Nikon 3x9x50 and I shoot dime groups with it, the 7-08 is an amazing caliber...low recoil, flat shooting, I hear greater energy downrange than a .308, (I have read that anyway) if I didnt already have one I would buy another for that price and put the Bushnell scope on it, helluva rig, low price and a tackdriver. the gun aint pretty but I dont care... I been with some ugly girls that.....well,,,,you know....
 
Yes that is a hell of a price for a Stevens 200. I seriously want one badly in 7mm-08 for that price. Unfortunately for me we don't have an Academy Sports nearby. I hadn't even heard of them except for online. After hearing about that deal I had to check it out online and see where the nearest store is. After thinking about it if I have to make a 10 hour trip to pick up the rifle, it's no longer such a great deal for me. If you have an Academy Sports in your area that's an amazing price.
 
slwrider, like I said the gun is ugly but I love my 7-08, I outshoot friends of mine with high dollar guns and optics. I have taken out hogs at over 300 yds, down intheir tracks. I got some nice rifles, Rugers, Sakos etc. but I take my Stevens out all the time. maybe you can get one shipped to a dealer with an FFL. check it out, you cant go wrong..

Yeah, I'd love to have one. Seems around here they range from $300-320 depending on the shop. At that price I'd always been a believer that the Savage Model 10 from Walmart with the Accu Trigger and a cheap scope for $400 from Walmart was a better buy as it wasn't much more. However at this price the price difference is huge and it's still a great rifle.
 
Ive got a 3x9 3200 and think its one of the best bangs for the buck for a scope. Ive also got two prostaffs and a buckmaster and a monarch. The prostaffs are junk and i wouldnt spend another penny on one. They dont have much field of view and there low light performance is way worse then a 3200. the buckmaster is closer but the 3200 still beats it out. Only nikon comming to my house again is a monarch. I havent tried the redfields but from what i here they outperform a prostaft, but then again ive got an old tasco world class that does that.
 
The Bushnell Elite has a very good on-line reputation, the Redfield is still pretty new to have a established reputation. Between the two I would go with Redfield, because they are made near my home, no other reason. For my money I would buy a Mueller scope. I have not seen better glass for the money in the APV and TAC II models. My TAC II was been on a M1A and an AR10, seen four years of service is is excellent. The 7.62 semi is hard on scopes.

I went last night and bought the Stevens in .270 and the Elite 3200--all told less than $350 out the door ($150 for the scope, $180 for the rifle, plus the horrendous Texas sales tax). Seems pretty nice, although the stock on the rifle doesn't feel as solid as I'd like. I'll probably replace it with a higher-grade Savage stock sooner or later.
 
I have tried to find a replacement stock with little luck, the key is whether the magazine well stays in the stock when you take your barrel off, my 200 so far has not not been compatible for a replacement stock, thinking about going the Krylon cammo paint route, but a laminate wood stock would make my 200 a beauty.
 
the Stevens 200 is a Savage 10 (short action in 7-08) or 110 in long action but like I said the stocks wont change out (go figure) depending on the magazine status.
 
Weaver has some really good, reasonable price scopes in the Grand Slam line, got one on my .22-250 Ruger No. 1, good eye relief,helluva scope, have been drilling hogs behind the ear at 200 plus yards.
