In trying to improve my accuracy with my Redhawk I am using a monpod with a "V" type rest to steady my aim. I rest my hand, not the pistol, in the rest.
My best friend says he rests the barrel lug just in front of the cylinder in the "V" rest.

I always heard that you should not allow a barrel to touch the rest or sand bag. However, that was probably meant for rifle barrels that are long and vibrate and oscillate. I doubt a short stiff Redhawk barrel does any oscillating, (jumping yes of course.)

I did a little dry firing using the barrel resting in the "V" of the monpod and it seems very secure and natural.

Do you think the revolver will shoot differently rested on the barrel vs my hand resting on the "V"? Of course I will go try it for myself, but interested in opinions and even more............... "experiences".

I hunt with a Super Redhawk and use a shooting stick with a "V".

I rest the barrel just as your friend does. When I sight my gun in at the range, the barrel sits on my rest in the same manner.

I tried both ways today. If I was shooting from a bench resting the butt on a sand bag and the barrel on a tripod I would go ahead and rest the barrel itself on the pod. However, shooting from an elevated tripod and using just a monopod it seemed much steadier to use the monopod to steady my arm/hand.
I'm sure as said above either way will work with practice, but using the monopod to steady me not the gun seemed more natural and much steadier.
I still need lots more practice before I master the Redhawk with my 260 gr WFN bullets.
