I have this to work with
190 gr Nosler Custom Competitions
and the following powders on hand (I live in Md, it's complicated)
XBR 8208
WC844 (two lots, one's considerably slower)
RL17

I would like some lighter loads, as I am only shooting 100 to 200 yards and still recovering from wrist surgery. Anybody got any load data and or experience? 308 data seems to suggest that XBR8208 would work.

This is 308 data from Hodgdon. The exact bullet isn't listed.
168 GR. SIE HPBT IMR 8208 XBR .308" 2.800" 39.0 2493 49,000 PSI 43.3 2707 61,500 PSI
175 GR. SIE HPBT IMR 8208 XBR .308" 2.800" 39.0 2511 52,200 PSI 42.5 2664 61,800 PSI
180 GR. SPR SP IMR 8208 XBR .308" 2.800" 36.0 2340 51,600 PSI 40.0 2497 60,100 PSI

You need a powder that can be safely loaded for reduced loads. You want H4895 Hodgdon and no other powder for reduced 30-06 loads.

Hodgdon Powder Company has found that H4895 can be loaded to reduced levels. H4895 was chosen because it is the slowest burning propellant that ignites uniformly in reduced charges. To create reduced loads, the 60% formula is recommended.

Start by reading this.

Sorry none of this addresses the powder you happen to have the number of powders that can be safely used for reduced loads is very limited. That is the nature of the beast.

Yeap that what I found also. Try to beg, borrow or buy a can of H4895. You'll be tickled with the results, I was.

You don't need load data for the exact bullet, the data for the 190gr Hornady bullet is just fine. Start at the bottom and work up for accuracy. BUT, if you can't change powders and need a load that generates less recoil go to a lighter bullet and starting charge weights of 8208. A 150gr bullet will help you and an even lighter bullet will generate even less felt recoil. (until you heal) Before I bought a .223 bolt action rifle I was loading 110gr bullets for my 30-06 and the felt recoil is very light.

38.6 gr of H4895 did the trick! A very pleasant 2200 fps with excellent accuracy. Feels like shooting a Swedish Mauser. Velocity was surprisingly consistent too.

I'm just wondering, why are you using such a quality bullet at those reduced velocities. Almost any bullet would work well in your application at probably half the price. Just curious???
