Hey all.
Have any of you experimented with reduced velocity .223 loads? I have played with AA5744 per Speer manual #14 with variable results...which is to say that the bullets perform as desired, but that accuracy is lacking. Specifically, I have an ample quantity of BLC2, and I would like to use this powder to work up a fur friendly load for certain applications while predator calling. I also have plenty of Unique, but have found no data with this powder for my purposes.
While I am well aware of the dangers of under-loading large cases with slow burning powder, I am unaware of possible dangers while using small cases and powders of this burn rate. Anybody have experience with this or a place to glean info on the subject? FWIW, I have loaded up to (down to?) 2 grains BELOW loads listed in various manuals with no pressure issues and very good accuracy, but these loads are still a bit exuberant for my purposes. Before I drop the charges further, I want to understand what I may be setting myself up for.
From what I understand, if you get a "pressure/curve spike"....define it as you wish....there are normally no pressure indications before the big ka-boom. Opinions? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
