I've got a Winchester Model 1300 XTR that is in need of a new finish. The original finish was a high-polish gloss blued finish, that has seen its share of scratches and dings over the years.

The thought is to blast it and parkerize it, but with the receiver being an aluminum alloy, my question is: will this receiver take a park treatment? I'm not worried about the rest, since parking the steel parts will not be a problem, I just have doubts about the receiver, and want some input before I blast away the finish.

If annodizing is the only other option, I could consider that as well. Just so long as the end result is a matte black that will match the park job on the rest of the parts.

Talk to the tech folks at Brownell's. They are cognizant and can give you all the options.

Best finish may be one of the high temp paints to make everything match up, steel and alloy......

Might have to do that... thanks for the suggestion.

I've considered a duracoat over park finish, since I've done that many times before with very good results... my only concern has been with the receiver. I would consider duracoat over bare metal as an absolute last result, and would rather have something under the duracoat that's a bit more permanent.

Brownells aluma-hyde works great on aluminum shotgun recievers. Should match the barrel pretty close if you have it parked.
