I've seen all sorts of RISs, from 7" continuous ones, to 12" ones with a break in them for a front sight, to the longest I've seen, 13.5" RISs.
I was wondering... why isn't there an RIS that allows for more RISs to be snapped onto it, allowing an extension of the RIS as a whole?
Think about it; this way, you could have, say, a short barrel, with a correspondingly short RIS for that, and then, a long barrel, with a longer RIS for that. Panels and front sight gaps could easily be accounted for, even in a free-float system.
This way, instead of buying whole 'nother uppers, we could just buy different barrels, and add and subtract RIS sections at personal discrection.
So, I guess what I'm asking is, why can't RISs be made in sections?

Good concept, but it seems like more pieces to rattle/break/come loose. A RIS should be as stable and rock solid as possible.
