22lr is the weakest of the 3, and most common. i have shot rabbits at 100 yards w/ it and it will usually kill the rabbit on the 1st shot.

22wmr will have more punch, as far as 22 rimfires go.

the 17 hmr is a 22wmr necked down for a 17 cal bullet. it will shoot flat but the little tiny bullets will be more affected by wind than the other two - though they will have considerable wind drift as well.

I'm into pistols for rabbit hunting (at "long-range"). Here's the Ruger Charger i'm using now--

here's the reticle that's in the Pride Fowler 3-9x (www.rapidreticle.com) that matches very well to the Stinger's i'm using out of it--

and a buddy with some rabbits--

If i had my druthers i'd get this 1 though (Volquartsen Predator 17 HMR) with the same optic on top--

I used to shoot a lot of .22 metallic silhouette with my Kimber M82 in .22 LR. The ram target (shot at 100 yards) is almost exactly the size of a squirrel.

I zero a scoped .22 at 50 feet and check at 75 yards -- with high velocity ammunition, it will be dead on at the latter range. By holding a tad low, shorter shots are easily made. At 100 yards, I would perch the squirrel on the top of the thick lower crosshair. I have killed many late-season squirrels at that range with that rifle.
