Can anyone recommend a reliable and easy to use dehumidifier for my "14 Gun Safe". It's filled with 10 rifles, misc. bayonets, 6 pistols and some ammo, and I'm concerned about developing rust. There's no thru-wall electrical connection so it has to be something portable and rechargeable. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I have one safe without electric outlets inside. Drilled a 1/4 inch hole in one corner low in back. Put a couple of plugs in an electrical box for golden rod and led lights. Easy to do...

I just use the large dessicant canisters. Summer we run AC, and winter is not humid. Spring and Fall I have to recharge them a few times, but so far so good, cheap and easy.

I don’t like the idea of a safe with holes. I just use dessicant packs and have never had a problem in 40 years. And I live close to the coast where we only have 2 seasons - hot and humid. YMMV.

Of the rod types, the Golder Rod brand is the most reliable, have never heard of one failing either. Just put the power cord hole through towards the top of the safe & seal - done!

Why don't you like a safe with a 1/4 inch hole (for an electric cord....attach plugs after running the wire)? IMO the safe door, unless it is hermetically sealed, is a "large hole".
My safe has a hole (about 1") that allowed me to thread a golden rod cord to a wall outlet. No issue with forgetting to exchange/dry out chemicals. Have had one in three safes over the past 30 years from Calif to Conneticut.

Yep, good point about the door. I get that one. I’ve just never had any need for a humidity control inside my safe, and I live on the upper gulf coast where we have two seasons a year - hot and humid. I just don’t understand these other situations where there are humidity issues.

I suppose if your safe comes from the factory with a drilled hole, it’s probably ok. Self drilled OTOH, I’m sure violates a warranty and potentially the integrity of the unit. That was my thought. My Browning is supposed to expand the door seal in the event it gets hot enough (fire) to give me (hole) protection for whatever it’s rated for. I would think any “hole” in it might not allow that to happen (but mine is not drilled for any holes from the factory).

Thanks. What size tub of Damp Rid and how big is your gun safe?
My safe is a 35 gun. I actually put a tub on the top shelf and one on the bottom shelf but I believe one would work fine.
I’m not sure what size the tub is, whatever they come in, probably around 16 oz or so.
After you buy the initial tubs you can buy the big refills cheaper.
I’ve found that Home Depot is a good place to buy.

My Browning came from the factory with a hole.
