Looking to purchase for a reliable quick access pistol safe. I have looked at several (gunvault, stackon) but the bigggest complaint seems to be the reliability factor which kind of defeats the purpose of self defense. Anyone have an experience with the finger combination type or suggestions for good ones?? I would rather not have one with a key a primary opening method and the biometric ones are too pricey for my blood. I know out and available is the best but I am about to have some kids thrown in my equation. Thanks

Regardless of which manufacturer you're looking at, the 5 button Simplex lock is one of the best available for this purpose.

There is a member here on this forum that builds a safe that uses this lock. V-line is a manufacturer that builds several types of boxes with these lock, but the boxes are lighter weight. Fort Knox makes a nice heavy box that also uses this lock.

No batteries, proven design, very reliable.

I like a1abdj's suggestion. The simplex locks are foolproof & very nice.

I have a gun vault & an AmSec hotel safe. I have been locked out of both due to bad batteries & kids punching the buttons.
