Ok guys I need some help here. I have several recipes for reloader and using the Hornady 225 sp. All of them are close to the 72-74 grains of Reloader 19How the heck do you even put a bullet into there with that much powder? I have weighed and reweighed. Even at 66 grains the powder comes up to the shoulder of the case.
I'm just wondering if Alliant screwed up on my container of Reloader 19. I'm not sure though cause this is my first time using RL 19. Even on their website they list a max of 75 grains. That would damn near overflow. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanx,
Mike

Mike; Please do not take this as a putdown, because it is not meant to be one. However you seem like a novice reloader with a very common problem. These loads are probably correct and safe(I didn't check your listed weights in any of my mauals), but what you are seeing are considered "compressed" loads whereas the seated bullet actually compresses the powder down since the powder volume exceeds the case volume. Quite frequently this occurs with close to, or maxiimum charges and is considered normal. The cartridge then has been loaded to almost 100% density and this is good for complete powder combustion. Usually a hot or magnum is required for ignition. Several reloading manuals will often indicate a compressed load with a capital "C" after the load. Check for it. Good shooting :)

Thank you Sir. I have been reloading small caliber rifles, 22-250 and 223 along with several handgun loads .44, .550 s&w, 45 acp for quite some time. I mainly use the Lee book and the internet. Nothing said anywhere that it was a compressed load. So that is what scared me when I saw the powder so close and the length of the bullet that had to go in there. You are right, I am a novice. But I knew the experts were here, so I had to ask. THANK YOU!!!!

From Nosler sight. Of course this is a Nosler 225gr, and not a Hornady.
But I listed here to compare.
