There are a number of sources for reliable reloading data online; one is here: http://data.hodgdon.com/main_menu.asp

I suggest that you be very careful using untested load data gathered from forums. There are some very experienced, prudent, safe reloaders here (and elsewhere). The again, there are some people whose data is, shall we say, suspect. I ALWAYS check any data provided by individuals against a known source of safe data - usually the powder manufacturer or one or more current reloading manuals. I suggest that you do, too.

In this case, it appears that H4831 yields top velocity for the powders that Hodgdon tested. I'd also suggest checking out Accurate Arms powder data.

i load both 300 win mag, & .300 H&H mag (for my brother) i use IMR 4831, the last ones i loaded for him i used 70.0 grains IMR 4831 to push a 180 grain Winchester Silvertip. VERY similar load. according to my balistics calculator, it should yeild ABOUT 2935 f.p.s.

nightruben : Welcome to the Forum.

I hope you are not approaching relading via what is termed the "dart board method". You get a bunch of data and say "I'll take that one."

May I suggest you read a few loading manuals and pay close attention to "working up a load". You select a case, a primer, a bullet, and a powder appropriate to your cartridge.

There are two similar methods to determine the most accurate load for your weapon.
1. ladder method (do a search)
2. incremental charge method, where 3-5 cartridges are loaded starting at minimum suggested charge, then increase by 0.5 gains and load 3-5 more, and then 3-5 more with an additional 0.5 grains, until you are at max listed load.
