Reloading .45 ACP. FMJ or JHP?

I'm going to buy some reloading bullets for my 1911.

Is there an advantage to buying jacketed hollow points over fmj?

Any info is appreciated.

None that I can think of unless you got too much money and need to spend it on JHP.

They are good for SD or hunting.
But they make the same size holes in paper targets & beer cans.

The thing is though, with the current hording & shortages in full swing.

Best buy whatever bullets you can find for sale.

If we are talking target shooting, a lot of FMJ's will feed better in your 1911 than JHP's. They don't tend to be as sensative to OAL to get smooth operation. One less variable to worry about.

My 1911 feeds JHP's quite happily from the right mags, but I've since relegated all the lower quality mags to range duty, so there is some benefit to having some ball around.
 
Paper isn't going to care. I suggest you look at plated bullets as well. At 45acp velocities they have no drawbacks and cost less than jacketed.
 
Where do you plan to buy these bullets? Everywhere I've looked has NONE.

Thanks for the responses. I had heard hollow points can sometimes be more accurate but I didn't see any accuracy issues with the FMJs I loaded. I always use factory hollow points got self defense.
 
Use either one in my opinion unless for self defense and then JHP would be better. Both shoot equally well in my 1911 9MM and the FMJ costs less.

Last year I found a bunch of True-Cast bullets, I bought all they had , some 45acp 200gr SWC, some 180gr SWC and some 9mm(0.3565) RN's in 125gr and 135gr .. NOW sit down ,,, hold on to your seat... I paid a wopping ,, $5.00 a bag 100 per bag ,:neener: and yes I sleep just fine ! and back in 2008 when things dried up I found a bunch of Auto Comp powder $13.50 a can (1lbs) so last month I looked up some data for 200gr cast with auto comp. and last week I took them and my S&W 1911 to the range for some plinking , I put 25 or so rounds in a 3" group at 30' my new top load ! :D now where can I fine more 200gr cast SWC's for $5.00 a 100:rolleyes:

I shoot plated 230gr bullets over 5.2 gr of W231. Tj Convera has Berry and X-treme bullets. Also Graf and Sons is a good place but they appear to be out. Moly coated bullets are pretty cheap too. I found some local for $44 per 500 and I'm going to give them a try next.
 
When I had to pay $26 for a lousy box of jacketed bullets last year, I got a Lee lead melting pot and some molds. Now I shoot for pennies a round and don't have to worry about sourcing bullets at the gun shop. The only bad thing is I am down to my last 3 bricks of large pistol primers.
