Reloading Bench Help!?

What about a hunk of counter top from Home Depot. I have one in mine, and love it, but don't have my presses on it. I would think it would hold up.
No matter what you deside on, I like a very sturdy frame that is screwed to the floor and wall. Mine is Ancored to my basement concrete.

$50.00 for the unit and a few bucks for the plywood, screws, and some stain.

Lowes has the nice 5 shelf metal shelving with wood shelves for $75. I believe their is enough to make a 8' x 2' table.

Just seeing this now, but it seems you already took the initiative and built yourself a bench - awesome!

I was just going to say that I built a VERY STURDY gardening/potting cart for my wife out of very well seasoned (i.e. nearly petrified) hardwood pallets that a local company advertised as free in craigslist, using nothing more than a circular saw, drill & bits and some deck screws. It could serve just as well as a reloading station. The cart turned out very similar to what bds made in an earlier post.

The hardest part of the whole build was deconstructing the pallets - that took some SERIOUS effort, and I'm not kidding. My hands were aching for days with all the pounding and beating I had to do to get those things apart. And the wood was so seasoned that nearly half of the boards split, mostly near the ends, but I got enough to make what I needed. As was mentioned, pre-drilling was a requirement - I broke off more than one deck screw trying to drive it in without drilling first.

I still like recycling things and using them to make what I need.

I also have an 8' section of laminate counter top that I garbage picked out of a dumpster that was sitting in an office building parking lot (it was the company I worked for at the time, but I let it get to the dumpster first so there was no worries of 'stealing company assets'). That would make a fine reloading bench as well with a framework made up of pallet lumber.

If you've got $199, both Home Depot and Cabela's have benches that can be adapted. Mine's from HD, it's a Husky, has a nice pegboard backboard, I have two presses at either corner and plenty of room to work. The top is wood covered by metal and gives me an excellent working surface. I've done thousands of rounds on it and it's been excellent.

Good luck.

PS-that's an RCBS Rock Chucker at one corner and an RCBS Turret at the other. My turret is ideal for pistol while the RC is great for precision rifle.

I picked up an old wooden desk at a yard sale for 10 bucks, ran a 1x6 across the front and bolted my presses to that. It's not the greatest, and is really too small, but I've used it for probably 10 years now. I used to reload in my unheated garage, but that got old after awhile, so I moved to the basement.
