reloading carbine question

Came across a statement in my notes that i'd like to verify and research has failed to find it; statement being "you do not have to create a bell in a rifle case( m1 carbine), the only time you bell a rifle case is when you are loading cast bullets".
So if this is correct, and you don't bell if using jacketed bullets, then there should be no reason to apply a taper crimp; just seat the jacketed bullet with a little lube. so,was/is this statement true? at this time i am not doing cast, strictly jacketed. by the way, have the lee carbide die set with taper crimp. thanks

You don't generally need to bell for jacketed rifle bullets. I don't load the .30 Carbine, but I would suspect a little bell would help, with a light taper crimp to remove it.

Do not lube jacketed bullets to help them seat.

While you may not "have" to bell the .30 Carbine case, life will be so much easier for you if you do. The reason is, the bullets used are flat-based and quite short, and a real PITA to work with. Personally, I bought a Lyman Type M die for this purpose, and am extremely pleased with it.

a thorough chamfering/brushing of the neck inside should suffice.

Never ever lube a jacketed bullet for use in any semi-auto pistol or rifle.

You need all the friction / case neck tension you can get to prevent feed ramp impact driving the bullet deeper in the case.

As a matter of fact, I would never lube any jacketed bullet for anything.
The neck expander cleans the case neck during sizing.
Leave them that way.

I use a very slight bell on the case to help start the bullet & a very very light taper crimp
to finish--I have found if I do not bell the case I may end up crushing the case.
Do not lube anything on this cartridge (excluding your lead bullets ) except when resizing---even using carbide dies it is a good idea to lube about every 7- 10 th case.
I usee 12.5 gr. H110-light load for my old carbine.
15 gr H110 hot load for my Ruger handgun ( the handgun is much stronger weapon than a carbine )

I reload carbine, and I have always belled the case mouth slightly. If not, the bullet will not enter the case and will crush the edge nearly every time. Not much, just enough to start the bullet. Don't crimp the bullet, taper crimp only.

Remember to always trim the case after each firing, or at least check the length. Case length is critical in this round.
