Hello everyone.

I'm in San Diego, CA on travel and was wondering if anyone know of any gun shops that has reloading components in san diego area?

Looking for some primers and powders.

thanks.

La mesa something sells reloading components. But it is overpriced :(. Cheaper if you buy a decent amount and pay hazmat and shipping

The AFU'd laws only allow 20 pounds of powder to be in a store. And, only few thousand primers as well. So, by and large, if you want reloading supplies, you have to order. Trouble is, looks like the BOZOS in Sacramento are going to ban all mail order ammo and components. Looks like a GREAT opportunity for Nevada or Arizona to set up stores along the border.:cuss:

Stupid AH's:banghead:

You might want to call Cal Customs in Fallbrook (N. SD county). They normally stock components. Last time I was there they jacked their prices and limited quantities, so they may have some inventory.

Only place I found 22LR, but at 4.50 a box and a limit of two.

I am always shocked how few gun dealers there are in such a grossly over populated county. It Appears Almost no one there shoots.

Glad to have left that damn place long ago. I was born and grew up there, and still visit family there, but am thrilled I will never be living there again.

La Mesa Collectibles is the place in El Cajon mentioned above. Haven't been there in a while, but bought some powder there a while back and the pricing was reasonable. Not sure about the local ordnances restricting component inventory - wouldn't surprise me, though as there is no limit to the idiotic, useless, and unconstitutional restrictions put in place in CA regarding firearms (as most here are aware). I thought that store's problem was more a financial one in maintaining large inventory, but I could be wrong about that.

A new shop called Big Shot on Miramar Road (right across from the Marine base) intends to stock components, and had a few last time I was there. They told me they have placed large orders but of course timing of delivery was unknown.

But it you're from AZ, I would think you'd be much better off shopping at home. Can't recall the name but someone at a local range once described a Phoenix-area store that had a very wide range of components for sale. Or if you can afford them just jump on the stuff available online as noted in bds' great component availability thread. Seems there is a bit of almost everything showing up again (if only for minutes!).

The closest component sources are up in Orange County and around LA - and not so many of those, either. But Welding Rod there are plenty of shooters in SD County (two new ranges plan to open up soon, and several new gun stores over that last few years, though pretty much just Evil Black Rifle shops, not full-range gun shops). The outlook is grim, though, as the lawlessness, bigotry, ignorance, and authoritarianism of the Coastal Clueless are now closing in common sense constitutional firearms ownership.

My LGS up in Temecula has primers on the shelf, but not much in the way of powder. I think I may go down and pick up another 5K of primers.

If it were me, and it was some years back, I would drive to Yuma, or even to Phoenix and pick up enough components to make the trip worth while. It's only about 175 miles to Yuma, and only another 160 miles or so to Phoenix. Phoenix has dozens of stores to shop for components, Yuma only has one store to speak of.

Don't bother going to Yuma right now as its dried up there as well. The store to speak of there is Spragues Sports and they usually had a good amount of stock before the madness but its barren now. I live 50 minutes away so I make the trip often. For the last two months they have had zero powder in stock, zero .22 caliber bullets and very limited selection of other caliber bullets. Primers were available but limited to one 100 count box per customer. Reportedly they do periodically get shipments in, but its almost cleared out in the first day or so. When powder is available its a one pound limit per customer as well, so kind of hard to justify about 300 miles of driving for that,

I'm not surprised that Spragues is dealing with empty shelves right now. But I still think a well planned drive to Phoenix, or maybe even Tucson ( I live here) could be worth the time and gas money. I've really had very little trouble finding all the components I need here.

But I'm not at all familiar with California laws, as to bringing components in from out of state. But if it's legal, I would probably make the trip when I have the resources to buy a worth while supply every few months, verses putting up with all the ridiculous component restrictions in California. But, it is, what it is. I know, I lived there for about 2 or 3 years back in the 80's, but I haven't looked back since.

To me, any state that dictates how I may, or may not make a purchase, thus making internet purchases illegal, is stepping over the line. I don't know how you tolerate it, I simply couldn't live with that, or any other laws that impose on my reloading hobby to such an extreme degree.

Bringing reloading components into California is no problem. I order almost all my powder and primers online and never had a problem getting it shipped here and I'm not aware of any issues as far as buying in Arizona and bringing it here. if you do buy powder in California at a local retailer it is more of a headache. They write down all your info drivers license etc. in a log book and I'm not a hundred percent sure but I believe there's a legal quantity that you can buy at one time. It doesn't give me a good feeling so I try to buy out of state as much as possible
