do any of you have any experience with Herters or Hackmillers reloading dies. I have seen some at estate sales, flea markets, and on ebay.
They are reasonably priced, some at almost give away prices.
They look as good as any other dies I have seen, appear to be well made.

I had a set of Herter' 30-30 dies a while back. Very good dies and produced very good handloads as long as I did my part. If I saw any Herter's dies for sell at a garage sale, I'd snatch them up...

Herter's dies are good basic 1960-1970 no frills reloading dies . I bought mine from Herter's back in the day , chrome plated bodies resist rust ... To me they look like Lyman Dies ... I'm not sure who made them for Herter's ... but it was one of the loading die companies maybe Pacific or CH .
The brown box they came in just says Herters... they could be CH dies but chrome plated bodies.
I would buy them in a heartbeat ... they fly under the die radar and are very good .

The Lachmiller Dies I have no experience with .

Update: I did some research and Herter's cotracted out with several companies over the years to have their "standard" dies made to a "price point" and at some point in time ... RCBS , C&H, Lyman and Micro-Precision all made dies for Herters ...
that's why my Herter's 41 magnum standard dies look so much like Lyman ...they were made by Lyman ... all the details match ... they just don't say Lyman .
But they could have been made by C&H , RCBS or Micro-Precision (these sorta look like Pacific dies) ... still Herter's are a good basic set of dies .

Either of those brands of dies are OK. Standard quality and make good ammo. The only problem would be getting replacment parts for them. I presently have 3 sets of Herters dies and all work as advertized. The 45 Colt set had brass gauling inside that I had to sand out before I could use them though. This can happen to any set of used dies though so just beware.
