I've read that many of the .30-40 Krag rifles were converted to .22 Hornet in the 1940s. Anybody with experience with these? Should they use the .223 dia. bullet? Seems the current Hornets are .224.
Appreciate any comments or suggestions about these rifles and reloading for them. I currently reload .22 Hornet for a Ruger #3.

The rifles that were converted (rebored chambers) from .22 rimfire (1922 Springfield was popular) to .22 hornet need the smaller bullet to be accurate. Any rifle that had the barrel replaced or any modern production rifle would use the larger .224 bullet. If you are in doubt just slug your barrel and see what it is. Also note that the velocity of the hornet is lower than the 222,223 etc and requires a hornet specific bullet to expand properly. I like the max of Lil Gun for my hornet loading for accuracy with a light (40 grain)bullet.
