So I've decided to start reloading for my Bulgarian makarov due to the fact that ammo is hard to come by in my area, plus I can load it a lot cheaper.

I've loaded 100 rnds with hornady XTP and accurate #5 so far.

I bought 1000 bullets (Speer 95gr tmj) while they were on sale at midway but I'm having trouble finding published data for this bullet and accurate #5

Could anyone give me some starting/max loads for this combination? (95gr jacked bullets & accurate #5)

Can't help there but for practice bullets Missouri Bullet Company has lead and coated lead for Makarov. Good prices and offer THR members a 5% discount with the code.
If your interested in trying some PM me and I can send you a sample.
The ones I have are lead lubed. (purchased before MBC offered coating)
The coating is worth the extra ($3) money IMO but I have shot a couple 1000 of the lead lubed in my MAK with no issues.
$32.50/500 lubed, $35.50/500 coated.

In general any .380 load will be safe in 9mm MAK, but might be a bit under powered. Ramshot shows 4.3 to 4.8gr #5 in .380.
L49 shows start 3.6 Max 4.8 with a 100gr JHP so with the lighter bullet you are probably ok starting around 4gr.
I would load maybe 5 at 3.8, 10 at 4, 10 at 4.3 or so any maybe 5 at 4.5.
I usually always like to leave myself at least a couple 10ths safety margin when loading ammo for practice.

Might try giving Ramshot a call.

Welcome to THR.

PS: regular 9mm Luger loads are NOT safe in 9mm MAK.

Thanks for the info Dudedog, I may give ramshot a call tomorrow and see what they say

According to Lyman 3rd edition pistol & revolver handbook .

Calls for a 95 gr FMJ and AA#5 3.8 gr to start and a max of 5.0 gr set at .970 OAL.

Sierra edition V 7th printing has 95 gr JHC listing AA#5 at 4.8 gr to start and 6.0 as max .950 as OAL.

I have mine loaded with HP38 at 3.7gr behind berry's plated 95 gr COAL .970 . These make my IJ-70 fun to shoot .

Thanks Buck60, that's the data I was looking for. I don't have a subscription to loaddata.com and none of my books have the data listed.

Just a warning, for some reason many shooters think the 9mm Makarov is "hotter" than the 9mm Lugar but it's not. The pressures in the 9mm Lugar ammo (35,000 psi) are considerably higher than in the 9mm Makarov ammo. (23,000 psi)

Could someone who has a subscription to loaddata.com find the starting and max loads for Speer 95gr tmj and accurate 5???? I would like to see what they list.

Not from loaddata.com, but from the speer manual (#14, I think)
AA #5
Starting = 5.6 gr
max = 6.3 gr

I've shot about a dozen rounds w/ Speer TMJ from my CZ-82 using 5.6, 5.8, and 6.0 gr. I have 6.2 & 6.3 loaded, but I never got a chance to shoot them. All were accurate, but the 5.6 gr seemed to struggle to operate the gun. No failures, but it just seemed to not be out of gas. I ran out of time to shoot the 6.2 & 6.3. I have the chronograph notes here somewhere, but they're well buried up in my reloading room. I think that the 6.0 loads were about 950 fps, but that's just off the top of my head.

It wont be published data. I would contact Speer, or check out a Speer manual. I've seen these on the shelf unwrapped :)
