Make sure your new loads chamber before loading a whole bunch!

I worked up a bunch of different loads for my recently inherited 7mm Remington Mag. I used the discontinued Speer Mag Tip 160 gr. bullet. I got to the range today and found that I could not close the bolt on them. Even though I loaded to the cannelure, the Mag Tips were WAY too long for my Remington 700 throat. Not sure if I'm going to pull the bullets and get rid of the whole box of bullets, or seat them deeper, beyond the cannelure, and shoot them up.

The good news is that I found a couple good shooting loads for my .223 and for my .45-70. :)

Lesson learned!

Are you sure that was the problem? Were the cases sized correctly?

I would try the obvious and seat them a little deeper, if that isn't it then the cases might not have been sized correctly.

Been there, done that. I got to the woods one day and my handloads wouldn't chamber. I had worked up a good load, but had never trimmed my brass. :)
I scrounged around behind the seat of the truck and found a box of factory ammo. Lucky I did because I killed a nice 6 point that day. Could have sucked really bad. I ordered a trimmer from Midway as soon as I got home.

The rifling marks were very deep and very clear on the bullet. My 140 gr Nosler Partitions in the same brass chambered fine.

I'm plenty aware the "checking" procedure is highlighted in manuals. Just forgot that step this time around.
