reloading re-start

Hey, Dennis;
Do you mean the light gray ones listed at $69? My understanding is that these are not the same as older 5-0-5's. Lighter in weight, and made in either Mexico or China.

Yes, and yes, they are made in China. I had the Hornady scale, it came in a kit I bought for my brother... it was not a very good scale, at least compared to the 5-0-5. The Chinese 5-0-5 is still the same basic design, I don't see why it wouldn't be a better scale than the Hornady. Best case, you find a used RCBS Ohaus 5-0-5 (the green one...) and get that, but understanding that it's used and may be abused.

EDIT: I see you got an RCBS scale... that's probably the best thing given what you had to work with. :thumbup:

My reloading workbench is an old surplus desk that my employer was giving away. Then I made a reloading platform that I clamp to when when I want to reload. The platform is also sized in a way that it will clamp to my tablesaw in the garage if I feel like reloading out there.

I take the platform down and use the desk for my regular workspace when I'm not reloading.

It's made of particle board and 2x4's and held down by a couple of big Harbor Freight clamps. A word of warning: when I resize my .308, there are times I say to myself, "well, it was a free desk" because of how much torsion I'm exerting.

I like how the platform raises the work area. It makes it easier to see everything up close.

Edit to add: you can't see the second clamp, but it's there, hiding behind the press.

The other reason I went ahead with the M500 is that I saw a YouTube video of a guy checking his. So I knew that it at least possible I would get a decent one. It appears I did. Maybe no better than the 5-0-5s offered by Amazon. *shrug* My objection to Chinese-made stuff is philosophical (?). I do try at least to buy Chinese products from American companies.
