I am having a hard time believing that its saving money reloading shotgun shells

If it cost $20 for a box of 100, thats only 20cents a piece....

can you reload cheaper than that?
plus you have your time and equitment cost...

let me know what it cost you to reload a case or per shell

thanks

There is a lot more to reloading than just turning out a shell at low price. Many of my loads are tailored for their use. These are loads that are not commercially available. Even then, the price is much less than $5/box, depending on how much I can get the shot for.

I load 12 gauge for just over $5 a box but and if you compare it to the promo loads I'm not saving money. But I use premium components, tailor a specific load to my liking that is not readily available from the factory. I don't compare my loads to the shells available at Wally World and I've shot and patterned enough of them not to hold them in high regard. Compared with the premium target ammunition I am saving money and getting a shell of equal quality.

I also load the 28 gauge. That's a no brainer. Shell costs are about half of what factory costs in these parts.

You can't compare apples to oranges. A properly re-sized brass reload is a much better shell than the steel based bulk shells sold at Wal Mart.

A $5 box of reloaded brass shells is a nice savings over the $7-8 a box you pay for brass target loads these days.

Reloading gets you AA/STS shells for the price of promotional loads.
2 years ago it cost about $2.85/box to reload and you could buy promo shells for 2.99/box
Now it costs about $4.75/box to reload and promo shells cost $4.99

But AA/STS, top quality loads cost $5/box 2 years ago and now cost $7/box

The math gets a little better the 2nd time you reload the hulls since you only paid for the hulls once.
But, as others have said, you get nicely tailored shells for the price of promo's. I've got 7.5's, 8's and 9's and I've also built some 8.5's (try finding that anywhere) and they are all 1oz low impact loads. (also hard to find)

If you shoot A LOT it's worth it in my opinion.
plus, it's kinda nice just to have 10,000 shells sitting around ready for use. :p

It cost me $3.75 to load a box of custom trap loads in 12 guage, but I make my own shot also..so My lead is free.

Down here buying shot cost ya 47 bucks for 25 lbs, add that to the primers powder, and wads, you cant save anything..

Get yourself a shotmaker and save some real money....

With the cost of components out of control I don't see much of a savings. I stopped reloading for awhile, but no one in the known universe makes a 1oz 12ga load of #4.

Yep, my reloads costs ~$4.50-$5 per box. I'm getting AA/STS/Nitro quality at Universal/Top Gun prices.

I can tailor my loads to the clay game or wild game. I can make reduced recoil recoil loads or superfastshoulderthumpers for wild pheasants.

I'm not dependent on Wally-World or Gander Mountain being out of the load I need.

Your time is not a cost. I'd rather spend a couple of hours with the kids reloading (my daughter reloads for her 20 ga) then wasting that time watching goo ooze out of the boob tube.
