I have been "shown" how to reload ammo (pistol and rifle) but I want to understand what has to be done, why and how it is done and the parameters that ensure it has been done correctly. Are there books or videos that you would suggest? I just want to do it right.

Go to youtube and look up reloading type stuff. There are good videos on there with most all of the information you will need. Plus the manuals that come with dies will allow you to set them up perfectly.

Go to the Library or purchase the ABC's of Reloading, 9th edition (Amazon, ebay, Midway USA, etc.). That will tell you the how and why things are to be done a certain way and in a certain order. Once you decide to start the reloading adventure, then some reloading manuals are a must because they will contain the range of recipies for specific powder and bullet combinations. The Lyman 49th, Hornady or Lee Second Edition manuals seem to be the most popular. I was in your position earlier this year, and did a lot of reading before I bought a single piece of reloading equipment. Urge you to do the same.

You may find some interesting vid's on the internet, but they most likely won't go into the why's. They'll mostly show you the hows.

Gavin from ultimatereloader.com has some GREAT vids on You Tube & on his website.

And then +1 on the books ABCs & Lyman's 49th Edition.
These are all very good resources for noobies & veteran reloaders alike.

I hope you enjoy all of it.

Thanks for the resources, it should couple well with the information available on this site.
