This is for another person so I can't post pictures.

He has a 03-a3 that looks to be in excellent condition with just a dent on the stock. It has the flaming bomb on it, the R's stamped everywhere and the ser no starts: 3762***. It has a type of OD finish and is marked 4 - 43 on the barrel. It also has a RA mark up by the same place.

He doesn't have the cleaning kit in the stock.

It has an old leather strap (dang, I can't think of the term). On the safety it has "ready" and then "safe".

Just looking for any Rem. 03-A3 folks that may be able to give a ball park of worth.

He also wants to know what the original bayonet looked like (oh, it has not been "bubbatized" or stripped of "evil" features).

Depends on the condition of the rifle, if it has matching parts, etc. Basically, is it more of a collectible or a shooter? If it's a collectible condition 1903-A3, those go for well over $1000. If it's a shooter grade, they can be had from $400 on up (CMP's got some for about $400, IIRC).

You can visit www.gunbroker.com and do a search on 1903-A3's. All kinds of prices for all kinds of conditions. You can also find pics of bayonets there as well.

Got my cosmo soaked Greek return 03A3 & 03 from the CMP some time ago. Well worth the cost. I've seen non-import 03A3 Remingtons in excellent condition in a local shop, tagged at $799, and they sell.

All 03A3's were made in '43 and '44. It sounds like the serial number and the date on the barrel are correct for time. The OD finish is a parkerized finish and that means that if it was refurbished, it was done at a US arsenal.

The 'sling' may be correct for this rifle as they got both the leather and cloth web varieties. The typical bayonet would be the same 10" bayonet that the Garand got. Some were cut down versions of the early 16" Bayonet and some were made in that size.

My 1903A3 I bought from the CMP is an arsenal rebuild that looks to have been rebuilt and put away. There were no marks on the parerizing in the receiver channel where the bolt slides and the barrel appeared to be brand new and never fired. I paid $420.95 delivered to my door.

You might want to go to the 'Your American Backyard Forum" (the old BattleRifles Forum is part of this now) at : http://www.ambackforum.com/index.php Go to the "Bolt Action" section and ask about your rifle. One of the Mods, Rick The Librarian, is an 03 and 03A3 guru.
