Rem 300 ultra mag

My two favorite powders are RL25 and Retumbo.
IMR7828 comes into use for reduced power loads (duplcating .300winmag loads).

My rifle prefers 92.5gr. of RL25 (Rem. cases, Fed215 primers) for just under 3,300fps (26"bbl w/"weatherby" freebore barrel -factory Savage M110).
It will take 100.5gr of Retumbo for nearly 3,400fps but is best at 98.5gr (same case and primer) for right at 3,300fps.

My gun is basically a 1.5moa rifle, but with a lot# of 180gr Remington Corlokts I bought back in '05, it will shoot 3-shot into an inch or so. These were "inexpensive" back then but since Cerebus took over Remington, they're more expensive than Sierra's or Speer's.
For a "reasonable" price bullet, use the Hornady 180gr Interloks (flat-base). They've been used in Weatherby .300wby mag factory ammo for over 50yrs and as such have an enviable reputation. Mine shoots them about as well as it does Nosler's or Sierra's.

Some factory ammo I got with the used rifle was some Remington factory 200gr Swift A-frame. These would shoot under MOA, but are hideously expensive. (compontent bullets are over $1 each).

For a "shooter" load, try some Graf's 168gr and 175gr BtHpts and some surplus powder. I bought 16lbs of WC-860 for ~$5/lb back in '05 and still have most of it. Widnener's and Pat Bartlett still have some WC-872 and similar powders that are excellent in the .300RUM. I recently bought some 165gr BtSpt PrviPartisan from Grafs but haven't tried them in the .300RUM. I shot a doe with one from my .30/06 over 57.0gr of IMR4350 for ~2,800fps. The bullet shed the core and didn't penetrate very deeply on a "texas-heart shot", but deer died.... I'd use the Hornady's from the .300RUM for deer, and a Nosler Partiton of Swift A-frame if shooting elk or larger.... And use the 200gr bullets at that, especially if shots will be at closer ranges (under 200yds).

I've gotten some excellent accuracy with 165gr Nosler's B.T.'s over 83.0gr of IMR7828 for about 3,100fps. 82.0gr of IMR7828 also gives same velocity with 180gr bullet for essentially .300winmag speed. The Nosler Accubond will be about as good as You'll find for a "long range" bullet at these speeds. About 1/3 less recoil than full speed .300RUM loads.... And won't give you a "Weatherby" eye when shooting from "field" positions when hunting. Everytime I've killed a deer with mine, it's drawn blood on "both ends"..... Hence, I only use it as a "bean-field" or "air-port" gun where ranges will likely exceed 350yds.... I prefer my .257wbymag for most "long-range" applications... But, bought both "cheap" as ammo is $$$ if you don't reload. If you do reload and use the surplus powders, they're cheaper to shoot than a .308 or .243....

research the archives here as this topic has been discussed before.... Not a lot of .300RUM shooters with a lot of experience for the obvious reasons.
