I picked up a 22 40x heavy barreled action that is pitted on the outer surface . who would be the best to send it to to have the barrel tuned down and the hole thing re blued . I thought about just polishing it out and putting Duro cote on it but it would be a shamed to have to do that to such a fine shooting barrel , I put it in a gun vice and test fired it , 9 out of 10 in the same hole and the one flier cut that hole . shot with bulk ammo.you know the cheep stuff.

I'd consider DuraCoat filler in the pits, sand it smooth, then DuraCoat finish it.

The problem with turning down a real good barrel is that it may create internal stress in the metal that wasn't there before.
Or it may release internal stress that wasn't noticeable before.

There is also the little matter that your stocks barrel channel will no longer fit the smaller turned-downn barrel.

It may not hurt it, but why take a chance?

Well I was curies about the barrel harmonics changing even though it would only have to be turned .002-.004 to get out the pitting

I think the cost of a good gunsmith turning the barrel just enough to clean up the pitting would be high. Higher than it is worth to me. I'd just be sure the active rust was removed with blasting or Evaporust and apply Durocoat or other gunpaint.
