I happen to get a nice email today saying my patent was filed and my company would like to enhance my paycheck for my efforts. The dollar number does not matter but it was significant so I thought I would get a nice 22 bolt rifle that I have been thinking about for a few years.

I have been following the Remington 504 for a while and seen very few threads on it. Over on rimfire central there is this love hate affair on the gun. But no "consensus" of if it is a decent overall gun.

I know there will be the immediate buy a cz452 or the like, but before I abandon Remington (all my bolts are Rem 700's and I have liked them), I would like to hear from folks that own a 504 and what they thought about it.

I admit all I am ever planning on doing with it is slap a scope on it (suggestions welcome) and take it to the 100 yard range for fun. I would like to get a nice 22 bolt to while away the time while the centerfires cool down.

So, if you have or have shot a Rem 504, what do you think? Good, bad, indifferent and what did you like or not like?

Boy, ain't that the truth. The CZ Love Society ought to be along any minute now.... ;)

I haven't shot the 504, but I have handled (fondled?) them. They seem to be well built, with excellent fit and finish for the price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

I have a .22 mag. 452 American, but I was going to suggest a Cooper Custom Classic .22. I really like mine. Of course, for 5x the $$$ it should be nice.

John

P.S. - I only know what I've read about the 504. I'm waiting to see the new Browning T-Bolt that's just been released.

Cool! I'm car number one, on this train. :D

If you want an all wood and steel Remington (like a CZ) look around for a used Remington Mdl. 34.

I thought CZ's had plastic mag well's?

everyone over at rimfire central are always saying they got a steel well from brnoman.

could be mistaken....

The mag wells are plastic as are the mags and trigger guards!! I used to be a Remington fan until they started to compromise quality in order to lower price to appeal to the big box crowd.
As far as the CZ train, it's on the way and you can't stop it!! CZ's been making quality guns before Remington existed and still beleive that steel surpasses plastic.
The 504 really looks nice in the magazines but put your hands on one and you will see how cheaply made they are.

Not a single 504 user. Interesting that the CZ fans have overwhelmed the 504 folks.

I have read about the 504 and the CZ452. I guess I will just have to go handle them or a kimber/cooper and see what I like.

Thanks for the advice.

I f I had a pile of money to spend on a .22lr rifle,

I would get and Anschutz 54 action sporter, perhaps with a meister grade stock.

I have a CZ special 28" tappered barrel with iron sights, and it is a fine .22lr, accurate excellent trigger, wonderful balance. All steel and wood. I highly recommend it.

Anschutz 54 sporter is a cut above them all.
