Hi,
Im a sucker for prudy bolt action .22's.

At a local little gun show I traded a S&W M19 for a Remington 504, the old dude who had it for sale even thru in some cash, rings, bases, an inexpensive scope, and 6 mags for it!

I didnt even know what is was, I just had to have it.

It is very similar to my M700, the new 547 .22 (upgraded 504) looks almost exactally the same.

Does anybody have any info on this rifle?

Thanks,
John

Just got back from the local cinder pit.

Rifle averaged 5/8th of a inch at 50 yds using Federal 550 Big Box, HV ammo. I was shooting prone with the rifle resting on a ammo box and rolled up towel. All groups were full mags (6 shot). The scope is a Simmons 4X .22 scope.

Using CCI CB longs it averaged 1.5 inches at 50 yards.

It didnt like Aguilla Super Colibri, averaged 3 inches at 50 yds.

Dynimite Nobel Target .22 shot to 1/2 inch.

Im Happy:cool:

This might not be what you want to hear. The 504s are nice looking have a decent action. They were not cheap 22s when new and most of them did not shoot worth a hoot out of the box even with expensive match ammo. The weak point seems to be the quality and the twist rate of the barrel of the the barrel used.

The original 504 used a 1 in 14.5" twist barrel instead of a more reasonable 1 in 16" - 1 in 17" twist rate for a 22. I got no idea why Remington did this because it goes against the grain of established 22 accuracy guide lines. My 504 would not hold a candle to my previous generation Remington 541T from an accuracy standpoint. I still have my 541T my 504 is down the road after total frustration and a $$$ loss to me.

You will just have to test your and see what kind of accuracy you get with your 504 there was a few toward the end of production that shot ok but still not great. The problems with accuracy with the 504 is fairly well known so Remington discounted the 504 brought out the 547 raised the price even more. Remington did have Shilen aftermarket barrels make the barrels at least originally for the 547 not sure if they still are. Seems like Remington forgot how to make a good 22 barrel this decade.... at least in the case of the 504.

If your 504 does not shoot well and you want to keep it you may want to look at a Lilja drop in barrel for it. The 504 with the Lilja barrels seem to shoot very well. Good luck!

I've had great performance from my 504. It's accurate, reliable with good looks and handling to boot. I think you'll like yours. You've already established that it's accurate-enjoy!
