I have a Rem 600 that someone has adjusted the trigger sometime ago. Appears they used Loctite to keep the screws from moving (suspicious dried red gunk around screws). Clearly, I'm not moving them with your garden variety gun screw driver. Anyone have some insight on how I might get these loose. Pull weight is not too bad but the over travel is ugly. Take the trigger off and soak in kerosene or something? Drill out? Buy a new trigger? Thoughts?

As mentioned on another thread I just read, try some Gun Scrubber on it. The gent who mentioned it, said it turns the stuff brittle, then you should be able to break the screws loose. Good luck. If that doesn't work, check with Numrich for a new trigger.

Also, it may be well to remember that common fingernail polish used to be used quite a bit. So, a bit of mineral spirits, Kroil, or B-12 (harsh!) might loosen it up

Do many younger folks still use the nail polish thing?

Remington had a recall on a lot of their 600 & 660's. If your trigger is gold I think you are ok (check with Remington) , if it is blue and has been fixed by Remington it will have the letter "v" stamped on the left side of the trigger. Remington will still fix it and will pay shipping both ways assuming that it has not been fixed before you aquired it.

I've had the trigger replaced. As best I remember it was because the safety had to be off before the bolt would open. Rem fixed this for free.

I still use the fingernail polish method of sealing the screws so they don't back out. Works much better (at least is not as sticky) than loctite. Anyone have better product for this?

Certainly will replace it with a Timney if I can't get a decent adjustment on it. Or get the screws out, for that matter. Like the Timney a lot.

Actually the recall was due to the fact that under certain circumstances the gun could fire when the safety was released. They also would upgrade the safety so the bolt could be manulipated with the safety in the on position.

All Remington 600's except those whose serial number starts with the letter "A" can possibly have the defect that cause the rifle to fire after the safety is released.
I own several and mine do not have this issue.
Also most 600 Mohawks I have owned that have a gold trigger have been built in the first year or two of production.
My 308 was built in 1972,which was the first year of Mohawk production, and it has the gold trigger.
If Remington replaced your trigger I can well understand you wanting it readjusted because I am quite sure their resident lawyers guild has instructed them to make it 9-12 pounds of pull instead of the old factory 4-5 pounds mine are set at.
Frankly I would get an after market trigger and call it done.

Thanks Heeler,

I'm headed for the Timney trigger I think. I really like the one I put on a rem 788. Now I just need the trigger guard that I can't find.
