I am seriously considering a 22-250 in the near future. Is there any practical difference in accuracy between the heavy barrel Rem and the CZ? I mean stock, out of the box.

Rifles are new to me (been shooting reloading for pistols for 30 years), so what other makers offer good choices in a 22-250 heavy barrel?

Which action is smoother out of the box?

while cz is not known for being smooth out of the box, as a matter of fact, they can be quite tight, Cz's are generally considered more accurate than a remmy, and the set trigger on a cz is like warm butta, very nice. this is why I have 4 of their rifles.

Thank you for the replies. I am very partial to the CZ. I have a Rem 700 in .270W, but have never "bonded" with it.

I have CZ pistols and they are some of my favorties. Again, thanx.

That was more or less my experience. The Remington was a good rifle, but it shot cases formed from .30-06 better than .270 Win cases. I eventually figured out that the reamer must have been due for replacement when they reamed my chamber.

At any rate, I eventually got a 550 American in .270 to replace it, and I never looked back. 550 actions are stiffer than a 700 or even a CZ 527 action. However, the CZ set trigger and stock are much better for me than the Remington configuration.

FEG,

When you say the CZ action is stiffer, do you mean how the bolt closes and extracts? I prefer a stiff action, just short of binding so to speak. This means it's gonna' get smoother and slicker the more it's used.

Yes. Based on the break-in so far, it will eventually be very smooth. Some of the new CZ 527 actions can be worked with the thumb only, in contrast.

I found with both my 527 carbines that it took 200-500 rds before the action began to really smooth out. But very well worth it!

Thank you gents. That's precisely the info I was needing. Looks like its going to be a CZ 550.

Gunstore owner/gunsmith I know and respect said based on his experience, the CZ's are consistently accurate and well made (not saying the Rem 700 is not).

Just to be clear, I have no doubt that there are Remington 700s out there that will outshoot a typical CZ 550. However, I think that if you are buying a new production rifle, your odds are better with the CZ.

my 527 in223, though I have fired many rounds through it, is still tight; I mean that I usually have to get it started moving, by putting my thumb on the back of the bolt assy., and pushing just a bit. Just to make clear, I am not complaining about it, i know it will continue to smooth out.

I have a 22-250 Remington 700 VLS and a CZ 550 heavy varmint in 22-250. (I also have other 700's and CZ's, but you asked about 22-250's!).

I would not hesitate for a second to buy either. For the same price, I would own the CZ. The single set trigger is simply amazing out of the box and the fit and finish is better than the 700.

That said, the 700 happens to be my go to gun because it is a little more forgiving shooting and lighter to carry.

So, it just depends on what I'm doing, but both guns are sweet.
