I just bought a Remington 700 ADL youth 270.
It has open sights, does anyone just use them instead of a scope. Will mainly be used in the woods but possibly out to 200 yards in field. Just thought this would be decent shooter with the open sights.

The factory sights on the Rem. 700 (like the factory sights on nearly all new rifles) are not exactly target quality but they are certainly usable. How good they are at 200yds. will depend on your eyes and available light and how much of the deer you can see.

Get yourself accustomed to "acquiring the sight picture" before you go hunting so you don't see a buck and then have to spend 10 minutes aligning the sights.

Keep checking your front sight because they have a way of getting knocked off-target and/or knocked off period. If it is a bit difficult to see - put a small drop of flourescent yellow paint on the surface that faces the shooter.

You will still have to sight-in the rifle as the iron sights are not really pre-set at the factory.

You may find out you really like using the iron sights !

Good Luck !

Shoot em and see if you like em. If not, you may want to try a 1x4 power scope. That would prolly be right up your alley. Buuuuut, twas I you, I would put a good ring sight on it. You'd really dig it.

just depends on whay type of woods. where i usualy hunt, i have a 4-12 x 44 scope on mine (300 win mag). but this year, i went up to my brothers cabin (near Mio Mi.) and took the scope right off! the LONGEST shot i was going to get there was 40 yards! no point in keeping that scope on at those ranges.
