What is the bore size of a Remington 799 762x39, 308 or 311? Which size bullet will I need?

I was not aware that Remington chambered the 788 in 7.62x39. If you have one, perhaps it has been rebarreled by someone?
The case head size would be of some concern for function, but it may be custom sized.
You may need to slug the barrel to be sure of bullet size.

It was never a standard Remington chambering in the 788 as far as I know, as there was very little 7.62x39 ammo in the U.S. while it was introduced.

Your gun must have been rebarreled, or rebored from one of the smaller calibers.
You will have to slug it to find out the bore size.

The only calibers it was made in were:
.222 Rem, .223 Rem, 22-250 Rem, .243 Win, 6mm Rem, 7mm-08 Rem, .308 Win, .30-30 Win, & .44 Rem Magnum.

Perhaps we're talking about the remington 799
http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_799_specs.asp

which is in fact available in 7.62x39mm. The bore size will likely be .310 +or- .001" for two reasons

1/ NOBODY and I mean NOBODY makes a production 7.62x39 with a .308" bore

2/ The rifle in question is made in Yugoslavia by Zastava

But don't put too much stock in .002 anyhow, your rifle will likely shoot bullets from .308 to .311 with equal accuracy. Just see the links in my sig line.

I have two 788s 222 and a 22-250. I did hear that people bought them and hacked them up for parts to build their own rifle. I'd look at the true specs of that rifle if its truely a 788.

7.62 x39 wasn't even available in the USA when the 788 was in production. It must have been rebarreled at some point because Remington never produced a 788 in 7.62x39.

My inaccurate Mini 30 had a bore that slugged out to .308.

back in the depths of time before 1992 they did in fact make a few hundred of the first mini's with a .308 bore
My long gone Mini 30 was made several years after 1992 and its bore slugged out at .308.

Not hearing anything from the OP yet, I'm inclined to agree with krochus that the rifle in question is a Rem Mauser 799. It's still possible that it could be a 788 but less likely after thinking about it.
I guess we'll have to wait to find out.

Yep, you're probably right and my old eyes are playing tricks on me. It probably was a 799 as the 788 went out of production in the 80s sometime and this one looked brand new. My next question is does anyone have any history with this gun as it has kind of caught my fancy, that is if at my age I have any fancy left.
