Does anyone own a Rem 870 synthetic 3 1/2" 26" bbl? I see Wal Mart has these for $279.00 and was thinking it might make a pretty cheap HD/project/duck hunting/beater gun. Any thoughts pro or con? Also, being that light and in a pump action, do the 3 1/2's shake your teeth? I only have 2 3/4" and 3" magnums presently.

i have one with the wood stock. It doesnt belt you to bad, Even had my at the time fiancee fire it with 2.75 3 and 3.5" shells. at the time she had never fired a gun before and was about 130 lbs, she didnt have a problem wiht any of the rounds, of course you wouldnt want to spend a day busting clay birds with the 3.5" shells
i use mine for everythign from dove hunting to goose hunting.

wow, i just hit 308 posts, maybe i should just stay at this count :p

When I wanted to buy a 12-ga. pump, that IS the one I bought, exactly.
I also bought a 20" rifle sight smooth bbl. to use with it. It uses the smaller shells.
I haven't fired any 3 1/2" rounds through it, but will do so on my next trip to the range. I'll have to remember to take both bbls. with me.
Versatile gun. That's a good price.

It'll do well as an allaround waterfowler/defense shotgun if you hold up your end.

As for 3 1/2" Maggie Numbs, work up to them slowly. One has to reach a certain level of expertise before they can take advantage of the heavier payloads and longer effective range of 3.5" barnburners.

3.5" lead shot loads will HAMMER you, they are flat out NASTY!!!! Steel shot isn't nearly as bad, but it still isn't any cupcake fluffy load. Steel is like a 30-06, maybe a little worse. Lead is far and away heavier recoil than any 338 win mag I have ever shot, even seems worse than 340 weatherby.

I have shot several CASES of heavy target loads in one day from pumps and O/U shotguns, and shoot some hard kicking rifles. I have shot hundreds of patterns with 3.5" shotshells. I am not recoil sensitive at all, but I avoid lead 3.5" shotshells in a pump.

If you decide to try it make sure your mouth is closed firmly, it can chip teeth if you don't.

This may be a little bit off-topic, but I've got to ask:

The 3 1/2" LEAD...do you think it will compare to what my new, unfired Remington 700 BDL in .375 Ultra Mag is going to punish me with? :what: :D

Bus, I think it will be pretty close. Your rifle will be over 9 pounds, and the sadistic 870 Supermag is only about 8 :what: :what:
