Well The Doc said to knock off the heavy recoil stuff, but I figured a few rounds using a lead sled could not hurt firing the M-700 remington XCR tactical in 300 Win Mag. Well now it does hurt... I probably gotta sell this rifle, which is too bad since it is pretty neat...

Well anyway, I am still goofing around looking for a good 300 Win Mag long range hand-load. So far I have managed to get 168 grain boat tails to shoot under a half inch groups, but I wanted something heavier for way out there....

So today I tried some H-1000 powder for the first time along with a couple fairly heavy boat-tails.

Some 190 grain Hornady soft point boat-tails

And Some 220 Grain Sierra HPBT match bullets.

The 220s seemed really long and had to be buried back into the powder.

The next time I will try a couple different powders.
The loads are on the group pics.

Considering that the barrel is not broken-in yet, and the trigger is still too heavy,,,the 190s look like they may have some promise. They would make a good moose getter as they are now.. The 220s may do OK with another powder.

RL-22 worked great with the 168 grain Gold Match slugs. I use it for a much of my reloading but found that my RL-22 winter loads are over-pressure in the summer.

I tried the H-1000 since it is supposed to be consistant in pressure over a wide temp range. Up here it might be a 30 below zero shot in the winter and an 80 degree above zero shot during the summer.

For some reason or another, Remington put a 6 groove barrel on the XCR Tacticals...

I have a good bipod for this rifle now.
I also found a couple good hand-load that gives a good balance of power and accuracy.

Bullet Speer Gold Match HPBT

Powder Weight 74.0 grs
Primer Federal 215M

Comment: Very consistant velocities and not bad accuracy in what has so far been a problem rifle.

I am pretty interested in getting one of those rifles for hunting and some long-range target shooting. Kinda tough making up my mind since I live in the boonies and haven't gotten to actually hold one. Would have to order and ship to get one here. How's it handle?

Looks like good results. Noticed you were setting the COL a bit shorter than I do on my .300. Is the box limiting your length or are you getting close to the lands at those lengths?

Did you drop the trigger pull any?
