New-Barrels are hard for me to obtain.

I have plenty of old second hand barrels that I retained for hunting.

Im considering going with the remage system

What's the possibility of using my current stash of old barrels for the remage system if the threads are simply picked up and extended to mimic the other new systems that exist..

All the old factory barrels that I have all have a recessed area just ahead of the shoulder to provide a relief zone when they are threading,

I'd expect that I'd be missing two or three threads from this area if I extended the threaded tenon..
ANY THOUGHTS.. on the cons of using old barrels..

Also might consider using different bolts for different calibres..
The idea is that I'd change to a 17rem for fox shooting and back to a 220 swift for deer later in the year..

I'm just concerned that cutting metal off tested or proof marked barrels might be a bad move?

Anyone out there that's already converted old bbls to a remage styled system??

Ive never tried it, but I dont think theres enough meat to add a nut to a stock remington sporter...you could probably do it just fine on something that was straight shanked like many/most custom barrels.

Why not just fit the barrels to the action using the shoulder? I have a swap barrel gun (originally nutted) set up like that. Its easy as screw one tube off, screw the next on.
Youll need a different bolt to go from 17Rem to .220 anyway,
